Lien waiver
A document a contractor signs releasing the right to place a lien on the property in exchange for payment. Lien waivers are used in the insurance claims process when a carrier issues progress payments, because the carrier wants assurance that the contractor will not claim it is unpaid. A contractor should only sign a waiver for the amount actually received, and the waiver should match the payment it covers.
