Holdback
The portion of a claim payment the insurance carrier withholds until the work is completed and inspected. It is a common part of the payment structure because the carrier wants to confirm that the repair was finished before paying the full amount. Usually the holdback is released after the final inspection or after the policyholder and contractor confirm the scope was completed. It is also called the depreciation holdback in some claims.
